BIWC’s Charity Commitment
Over the years, the BIWC has supported various non-profit causes. Our volunteers have raised money, given of their time and skills, supported non-profit projects. Four annual Open Days raised money for a women’s shelter (the Hestia Frauenhaus), Exilium e.V. & Street Kids and the Björn Schulz Stiftung.
BIWC’s Special Interest Group Sew Creative made items for the annual Sommerfest and Christkindlmarkt @ the Björn Schulz Stiftung. They also made 60 children’s dresses for the Dress a Girl Project in South Africa.
The proceeds of the 4th Annual Open Day funded the garden renovation, provided a children’s play area and bought new bunk beds @ the Hestia Frauenhaus. Since 2007, Penny, has organised an annual tea party. All proceeds are donated to the Hestia Frauenhaus. In 2010 Penny put on a fashion show which raised funds for the purchase of a vehicle; an industrial washing machine was purchased from the proceeds of the Club’s Jubilee Party. In the same year, members redecorated part of the refuge. Penny also collected Christmas presents for the women and children staying there during the festive season and Julia often donated a Christmas tree.
For many years, members have participated in the annual Avon Women’s Run in Berlin in aid of the Berliner Krebsgesellschaft e.V.
Juliet worked as a volunteer for a refugee project Hellersdorf hilft e.V. The Club gave a donation in support of this project.
In 2019, we held a Spring Bazaar for the charity organisation Papatya.
Even though the pandemic put a temporary stop to many of our non-profit activities, the BIWC has continued its support for a variety of efforts such as assistence to refugees and victims of natural disasters.
