Get Out and Explore

Friday, 3 November A visit to the traditional Mexican Altar of the Dead at the Humboldt Forum. The altar is decorated with flowers, candles, crafts, fruits, sweets, lemonade, liqueurs, cigarettes, gifts for the deceased. A colorful evening program is offered, with theater, dance, and live music performance.

Thursday, 9 November A visit to Schloss Britz, where the director of the Schloss will give us an insight not only into its interesting history, but also into present and future projects. We will also have a tour by one of the curators of the current temporary exhibition, “Carpet Mapping”, which combines the permanent exhibition’s stock of historic Persian carpets with a look at carpets by modern artists.

Friday, 10 November A visit to Einstein’s lakeside summer house, built to his own requirements in 1929. Einstein spent much of his time here before the Nazi seizure of power, hosting an impressive set of guests from the arts and sciences, such as Max Planck, Erwin Schrödinger, Heinrich Mann, and Käthe Kollwitz.

Saturday, 18 November
A stroll down Unter den Linden, with opportunities to admire the many classic Berlin landmarks and attractions along the way.

Tuesday, 21 November A musical afternoon with an Iranian woman musician, who will play a traditional instrument, the setar, and will explain the instrument and the music to us.

Friday, 24 November A tour of the historic district of Steglitz in southwestern Berlin, guided by local expert Dr. Christian Meyer.

Monday, 6 November Lunch at a new restaurant in Moabit, Platform 68, offering Vietnamese cuisine and sushi.

Thursday, 16 November Lunch at the Ristorante Cumberland, offering classic Italian cuisine in what is possibly one of the most beautiful restaurants in the city.

Thursday, 16 November A casual option at Hackescher Markt: a drink, a meal, a chat with friends—whatever you feel the need of at the end of the day!

Monday, 27 November The Afternoon Book Group discusses Trust, by Hernan Diaz, winner of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for fiction.

Film Buffs, a WhatsApp group, meets on an ad hoc basis, at times convenient to participants, to go to the cinema together.
