Tours and Talks
Monday, 2 September The perfect plan for the end of summer—stroll around Lietzensee, a picturesque lake located in the heart of Berlin. and then enjoy the beautiful views from the Bootshaus Stella.
Thursday, 5 September We will visit the House of the Wannsee Conference, the lakeside villa where the Nazis planned the annihilation of European Jews, now a memorial museum. Afterwards we will go to the beautiful garden to talk about what we have seen and then take a refreshment nearby.
Saturday, 14 September A special, BIWC-only event from Beyond and Beneath tours. Hidden corners of Berlin, including the sites of two former prisons, will come together to tell you fascinating yet often overlooked stories that span 200 years of crime, terrorism, and people not afraid to get into trouble.
Sunday, 15 September Do you enjoy English-language theater? Join us at the Globe Berlin, an open-air theater-in-the-round in Charlottenburg, for a performance of Hamlet in English.
Saturday, 21 September Our new Art Discussion Group gets under way with a look at significant works from the Renaissance. We’ll learn how to explore the characteristics of an artwork, how to evaluate artworks by using specific criteria, and we’ll discuss why the selected artists are seen as innovative and revolutionary even today.
Saturday, 28 September The Haus am Waldsee in collaboration with the Georg Kolbe Museum and the Sophiensäle present the artistic work of the French-Austrian artist, choreographer, and director Gisèle Vienne (b. 1976).
Food, Drink, and Friends
Friday, 6 September Enjoy culinary delights from India with us in a lunch at Naina restaurant, offering Indian fusion cuisine with traditional roots.
Thursday, 26 September Lunch at Vino Greco, where the owner has personal contact with the wine-growers. Vino Greco offers not only wine, but also other delicacies and certified organic delicatessen from Peloponnese, whether cheese, olive oil or sausage—all made by Greek farmers according to traditional recipes.
Thursday, 26 September An evening at the Hofbräu Wirtshaus, which offers traditional food, original Hofbräu beer, live music, and traditional costumes with the incomparable atmosphere of the famous Munich Oktoberfest.

Monday, 23 September The Science Group will discuss Daniel Levitin’s book, This Is Your Brain on Music. Learn why we are so emotionally attached to the music we listened to as teenagers, and why earworms are so hard to get out of our heads!
Monday, 30 September The Afternoon Book Group will discuss James by Percival Everett, a retelling of the Huckleberry Finn story from the point of view of the escaped slave Jim.
Film Buffs meets on an ad hoc basis, at times convenient to participants, to go to the cinema together
