From contemporary art to toddler play groups, from Berlin walks to book discussions, there’s something for everyone this month!
Monthly Meeting
Tuesday, 1 October Drinks and dinner, opportunities to socialize with members and prospective members, and a moderated violin concert with our member Zoya Nevgodovska.
Tours, Talks, and Service
Every Tuesday English-speaking play group, open to non-members. This an outreach service activity, bringing our expertise in connecting people to a group at risk of isolation: parents of babies and toddlers.
Tuesday, 8 October A tour of this year’s project of the art group dimension14, ‘Looking beyond the edge of the pond’. Two of the artists in the group will introduce us to this year’s works and the group’s coverall concept—theme-related, temporary and site-specific works, with different locations being temporarily occupied each year.
Thursday, 10 October Take an evening stroll with us to see how world-famous landmarks and monuments in Berlin’s city center become the canvas for spectacular light and video projections at the Festival of Lights.
Friday, 11 October The After Work group goes to the Epic Comedy Show, an English comedy event in Berlin—tried and tested comedians bringing you tight sets of original comedy.
Thursday, 17 October A visit to the Villa Schöningen, a 19th-century Italian-style villa on the banks of the Havel, part of the Berlin-Potsdam’s UNESCO World Heritage site. Our guide will be a Club member whose family once resided in the villa.
Saturday, 19 October A visit to the Buddhist House in Frohnau. The Buddhist House celebrated its hundredth anniversary last August. We are invited to visit it again, meet the monks, learn to meditate and have a delicious vegetarian lunch.
Tuesday, 22 October A tour of the Old State Library on Unter den Linden. The curator of the Library’s Oriental Division, who gave us a wonderful tour of the New State Library on Potsdamer Straße, will now introduce us to the treasures of the older location.

Monday, 21 October The Science Group will discuss a concise scientific report, Toxin-Free Food? It provides a comprehensive overview of all chemicals in food to which average adult European consumers are chronically exposed; it also explains the institutions and systems the EU has built up to protect consumers.
Wednesday, 23 October The Biographies group will discuss The Girl With Seven Names, by Hyonseo Lee, the story of her escape from her native North Korea and her struggles to bring her family out to safety. The Film Buffs, a WhatsApp group, goes to the movies together on an ad hoc basis.
