Tours, Talks, and Service

Every Tuesday English-speaking play group for parents with babies and toddlers, open to non-members.

Tuesday, 1 April A visit to the Museum of Communication. After being greeted by one of the friendly robots in the entrance, we will visit Germany’s first comprehensive exhibition about news and our access to it.

Thursday, 10 April A visit to Zitadelle Spandau, one of the best preserved fortresses of the High Renaissance in Europe, built around the core of a medieval castle.

Wednesday, 16 April A special tour: Broken Utopias: The Many Lives of Stalinallee. These towering wedding-cake-style buildings were built to showcase the triumph of socialism. We will learn about the turbulent past of ambition, propaganda, and resistance that lies behind these grand facades.

Saturday, 12 April A visit to the Stasi Museum and its exhibitions, providing information about the State Security and how its activities affected the GDR population.

Wednesday, 30 April Art therapy teaser: Creative Expression and Well-Being. A meet and greet for women who are interested in learning more about the intersection between creative expression and betterment of mental health.

Food, Drink, and Friends

Thursday, 24 April Opera And Wine: A Sensory Journey. Mezzo-soprano Summer Carne will perform a selection of opera arias, paired with five distinctive South African wines for a rich sensory experience.

Friday, 25 April A Mexican evening in Mitte, with a wide range of Mexican specialities. We hear the cocktails are good here—maybe a margarita or two would be in order!

Also, under the title “Body and Soul,” a member offers a congenial evening together with a light meal, at a mutually convenient time for participants.

Wednesday, 2 April The Poetry for Pleasure group meets to read and talk about poetry in multiple languages (with English translations as needed).

Wednesday, 9 April The Biographies Book Group will discuss Mitzi Asai Loftus’ memoir, From Thorns to Blossoms: A Japanese American Family in War and Peace.

Monday 28 April The Afternoon Book Group will discuss Martyr, by Iranian-American author Kaveh Akbar.

The Film Buffs, a WhatsApp group, goes to the movies together on an ad hoc basis.

Stay Fit With Walking Groups

Saturday, 12 April A hike through Treptower Park and Plänterwald, with striking views of the abandoned amusement park and the Soviet war memorial.

When the Cherries Bloom (date to be determined) A walk on the Mauerweg/Asahi Kirschblütenallee (cherry blossom alley) lined with over 1000 cherry trees.
